Make a Real Statement – Nailing a Bright and Bold Interior
Bright and bold style stands out as a vibrant celebration of vivid colours and striking patterns, combined to create functional and visually captivating spaces. Elements of this style can be traced back to various periods and cultures, where colour was used to signify status, evoke emotions, or simply beautify spaces.
But what does this mean for you and your business? Well, a bright and bold interior design style can enhance creativity, productivity, and branding in just about any commercial and educational environment, making it a highly desirable avenue for modern, forward-thinking organisations to explore.

The Roots of Bright and Bold Interior Design
In the 20th century, particularly during the mid-century modern era, bright and bold designs gained popularity in the West. Designers began experimenting with dynamic contrasts and saturated colours, breaking away from the nature-inspired tones and patterns previously used. This style saw a resurgence in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, as designers and homeowners alike began to embrace more personalised and expressive decor choices.
Today, bright and bold interior design is synonymous with creativity and energy. It is about pushing the boundaries of traditional design to create spaces that are both inspiring and impactful.
How Bright and Bold Functions in Commercial Spaces
Bright and bold interior design helps in creating a unique and memorable space. For businesses, this translates into a distinct brand identity, helping them stand out in a competitive market. For employees, a lively and visually stimulating environment can reduce the monotony of the daily routine, thereby reducing stress and improving overall job performance.
A well-designed, colour-rich environment can leave a lasting impression on clients and visitors, reflecting a company's innovative and forward-thinking ethos.
How to Incorporate Bright and Boldness Into Your Workspace
When thoughtfully integrated, bright and bold decorative elements can stimulate creativity, boost morale, and make your company uniquely yours – and Wagstaff's furniture range offers the perfect pieces to bring this vibrant style to life.
Uplifting Neutrals with Pops of Colour

The neutral tones found in most workspaces, such as existing flooring and architectural features, can be enlivened by the inclusion of bright and bold furniture. The neutral colours then act as a backdrop to showcase these more vibrant accents, and literally highlight their adaptability in the space. Colourful stools, seats, and cushions moved to meet the needs of a dynamic and multipurpurpose workspace.
Introducing functional chairs like the Air Collection stackable chairs which can infuse energising colour into otherwise subdued palettes. This approach allows for a harmonious blend where neutrality elevates the vibrancy of the accents, creating an engaging and balanced aesthetic.

Choose Graphic Prints
Graphic prints can be a powerful tool in energising spaces. When selecting patterns, consider the scale and how it will impact the overall design. For a more dramatic effect, opt for large-scale geometric wallpaper on an accent wall, as this will not only serve as a focal point but also infuse the space with a youthful and modern vibe
Curate Unexpected Texture Mixes
Texture is a key element in creating a tactile and visually interesting environment. Incorporating a variety of textures, such as throws, pillows, rugs, and upholstery coverings, adds depth and dimension to your space.
Experiment with contrasting materials by pairing nubby wool with smooth linen or sleek leather, and for a more daring approach, consider introducing chairs with a camouflage print among solid neutrals, adding an unexpected and playful element to the design.
Spotlight Radiant Finishes
Incorporating metallic surfaces can add a touch of luxury and elegance to your space. These reflective finishes, such as the polished aluminium base of the Eclipse II Operator Chairs, can coordinate beautifully with chic chrome legs on meeting chairs like the ISOs.
To create a captivating interplay of textures and finishes, pair these lustrous seating options with matte counterparts, such as the Desk High Mobile 3 Drawer Metal Pedestal or the Stand-Up Stools, which come in three sizes and a Up Junior Stool model suitable for primary and secondary school students.

Zone with Vibrant Dividers
Effective use of colour and texture can help define functional areas within a larger workspace without the need for physical barriers. The Mobile Caddy Pedestals, available in cheerful colours, can be strategically placed under or beside desks to create visual zones, while maintaining an open and airy feel.
Additionally, soundproof meeting booths can demarcate different areas in a space, providing both functional and aesthetic benefits.
Our Brightest and Boldest Case Studies
Nationwide Building Society

In Ramsbury House, Swindon, we embraced the challenge to reflect Nationwide's innovative spirit. The design, a collaboration with Summer Inman and Dalziel & Pow, mirrored the retail 4C scheme's vibrancy, bringing bright and lively collaboration areas to the administrative team.
With over 700 digital staff, the space was transformed into a hub of energy and creativity, featuring workstations with sit-stand functionality and vibrant ‘scrum’ areas, reflecting the bold and dynamic ethos of Nationwide.
Forest Research

The refurbishment of the Northern Research Station in Edinburgh by Pick Everard provided us with an opportunity to blend research with nature-inspired design. Here, the use of green and yellow tones created an inviting and functional work environment, reflecting Forest Research’s connection with sustainability.
This integration of gradients, such as greens and yellows – coupled with strategic spotlighting – amplifies the bright and bold furnishings at the centre of the room. Commanding the flow of traffic in the space and broadening it visually.
Yeovil College

At Yeovil College, our design team faced the task of creating an agile and stimulating educational environment.
The project involved developing a new HQ Building with furniture that embraced agile working practices, and the selection of bright and inviting colours, combined with versatile furniture solutions, resulted in an educational space that was both functional and inspiring, embodying the college's commitment to innovation.
Manchester Airport Group (MAG)

The project at Manchester Airport (MAG) designed by Squaredot, required us to integrate existing and new furniture across six floors. The challenge was met with a strategy that maximises the use of vibrant and contemporary designs to reflect the dynamic nature of the travel industry.
